Meet Our Interns
My name is Fernanda Cabrera Arroyo. I will be graduating from Texas State University in August with a degree in Mass Communication and a minor in Art. After I graduate, I hope to start a full time career in Austin in the mass communication/advertising industry. I am originally from Mexico but have lived most of my life in The Woodlands, Texas. By being the Social Media Intern for Komen Austin, I hope to gain professional experience that will help me in my future career. My hobbies include dancing, cooking and photography.
I moved to Austin last summer from Alexandria, VA in order to pursue a dual master’s degree in Public Affairs and Advertising at the University of Texas. Throughout my internship, I hope to experience firsthand the intersection of community engagement and public health. I am not sure of my post-graduation plans, but I know that I want to align myself with a service minded organization. In my free time, you can find me trying new recipes or playing with my golden retriever Cookie.
Alejandra Borja is a senior at Texas State University that prides herself on her attention to detail. Borja is a public relations major and fashion merchandising minor. She has stayed involved on campus while completing her undergrad. She is the public relations director for Student Volunteers Connections and a promotions assistant at KTSW 89.9. Borja chose to work with these organizations along with Susan G. Komen because they tie in with her passion to help others. Borja makes bettering the lives of others a priority, which is why she plans to continue to work with non-profit agencies after completing her masters. She is looking forward to the knowledge and experience she will gain while at Komen. On her free time, she enjoys taking her two rescue dogs on hikes, divulging herself into DIY projects, traveling and attending concerts
My name is Abhi Ganesh and I am from Dallas, Texas. I am currently a sophomore at the University of Texas at Austin, majoring in Neuroscience in the pre-medical track. I am the Education and Community Outreach intern for the summer of 2016 and am really excited to explore the non-profit world! I am hoping to go to medical school after I graduate and pursue my passion by working with kids with disabilities.
My name is Vivian Lugo and I am from San Antonio, Texas. I am a current third year Corporate Communications and Dance Studies major at the University of Texas at Austin and am very excited for this internship position. I am excited to not only learn about strategic and effective event planning and fundraising, but I am also looking forward to helping make an impact in the lives of those suffering from breast cancer within our community. After graduation I want to work in the communications and development areas of a non-profit and eventually own my own dance studio. In my free time I like to go take dance classes, hike, and try new food places.
I’m a senior Communication Studies major at the University of Texas at Austin. I’m originally from Brenham, Texas where I developed my love for classic novels and photography. After graduation, I hope to work on a company’s events staff or in another communications related position. This internship is going to be a great opportunity for me to learn more about the non-profit world while using my events background to help expand my fundraising skills.
Hello! I’m Laura and I am a junior at the University of Texas studying Journalism and Public Relations. I’m a Florida native but I moved to Texas as fast as I could. I feel so lucky to have the opportunity to work at Komen Austin. This organization is close to my heart and I’m eager to learn the ins and outs of working at such a reputable company. You will most likely find me playing sand volleyball at Zilker Park or eating at my favorite restaurant, Perla’s, on South Congress.
